The Sigatoka Town Council has taken a major step toward environmental protection after formally partnering with Trash Boom Pacific to install a Trash Boom Barrier at the Sigatoka CBD creek outlet flowing into the Sigatoka River.

The partnership was sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a collaborative effort to prevent waste from entering the river system and to improve environmental outcomes in and around Sigatoka.

Under the agreement, the Trash Boom Barrier will capture floating waste before it reaches the river, helping to reduce pollution, protect marine life, and improve the overall health of local ecosystems.

The initiative will also include continuous monitoring and reporting to assess environmental impact over time.

Trash Boom Pacific will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the barrier, while Sigatoka Town Council will provide ongoing support to ensure the long-term success of the project.

Both parties described the project as a shared investment in the future of Sigatoka, aimed at creating a cleaner, greener, and more resilient town for current residents and future generations.

The Trash Boom Barrier installation is expected to commence soon, with authorities encouraging community support to help ensure the initiative delivers lasting environmental benefits.
