NANUMIAU are the champions of the FMF Navosa Netball Tournament after defeating Qwalimavua 11–8 in the main cup final at Vatureba Ground yesterday.
The two-day tournament featured strong competition, with Nanumiau earning their place in the final after edging Henibua 10–8 in the semi-final. In the other semi-final, Qwalimavua secured a hard-fought 9–7 win over Heni Ivi to book their spot in the decider.
Tournament coordinator Judy Kumar said the competition was a success, with FMF Navosa Netball, supported by Navosa Rugby, hosting 20 teams over the two days.
“It was an exciting tournament with very competitive netball played throughout,” Kumar said.
She highlighted the performance of legendary player Elenoa Vatureba, who stood out during the tournament, adding to the excitement for fans and players alike.
Nanumiau also claimed the Best Qualifier 1 award after a closely contested final against the young Qwalivula 1 team, coached by Sadam Bainivalu.
Kumar said Nanumiau’s victory was boosted by the experience and leadership of former Fiji Pearls squad members Robyn Vula and Chivalele, alongside several senior players who played a key role in guiding the team to victory.
