Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh is optimistic that a resolution will be reached in the stand-off between Energy Fiji Ltd and about 500 of its workers.
The employees issued a strike notice in December last year through the Construction, Energy and Timber Workers Union (CETWUF) for salary related issues between 2024 and 2025.
The notice threatening a walk-out on February 15 if their issues are not addressed was the subject of a voluntary mediation on January 19 between the two parties and the Ministry of Employment and Industrial Relations.
Mr Singh said the meeting was the first of more discussions between government and the two parties.
“The first session of meditation went very well,” he said.
“The next one is next Monday. We are confident we will reach a settlement within next week.”
