ICT solutions provider Datec (Fiji) and the Australia Pacific Management and Training (APMT) has signed a joint venture to combine their resources and work together to energise Fiji’s ICT sector, and create much-needed jobs for skilled youths in the country.
The signing on January 9 this year marks a shared commitment to take the country forward in education and employment.
A statement from APMT stated that the formidable market presence and strength of Datec (Fiji) combined with APMT’s international standard training and education would create the right pathways for Fiji’s younger generation, giving them world class education and a bright future in their chosen field.
What this means for Fiji
The APMT stated that through this partnership, Datec (Fiji) will facilitate the delivery of IT courses and training by APMT and offer internship to the young graduates.
Internship with Datec (Fiji) will provide valuable real-world experience to young students and enhance their chances to secure employment with Datec (Fiji) and other IT companies in the country.
It stated that its collaboration with Datec (Fiji) was firmly anchored in Fiji’s future workforce needs and long-term national aspirations.
It added it was working closely with Datec (Fiji) to understand the evolving demands of the local and regional ICT labour market and, on that basis, was designing and developing unique, future-focused courses that would prepare young Fijians for 2030 and beyond.
APMT general manager Dr Manpreet Kaur said through the joint venture with Datec (Fiji), they were delivering standard IT qualifications and were also creating programs that aligned with the future of work in Fiji.
“By embedding structured internships, mentoring, and project-based learning into our programs, we are ensuring that every graduate has both the academic foundation and the hands-on experience needed to transition smoothly into meaningful employment.
“This is how we intend to support Fiji’s ICT workforce pipeline towards 2030 and well into the future.”
Practical significance of the partnership
Today’s youth deserve more than formal education.
They need to be job-ready not only in skill but also in their understanding of business and aligning with international best practices, the APMT stated.
It stated the agreement between Datec (Fiji) and APMT provides the right framework to ensure our graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and exposure to make their mark in the job market.
According to Datec, the joint venture was more than just about education but also about creating real opportunities for young people through practical IT training, internships, mentorship, and exposure to real-world ICT environments.
By combining Datec’s industry experience with APMT’s internationally aligned training programs, it stated they were helping prepare the next generation for meaningful careers in technology, while supporting Fiji’s national digital transformation goals.
Speaking on the occasion, Datec (Fiji) chief executive officer Vinit Nand said they were proud to stand alongside APMT in a partnership that was deeply focussed on Fiji and its future.
“They say it takes a village to raise a child. It’s time our students got access to facilities and support other than quality education to prepare themselves for the world out there,” Mr Nand said in the statement.
“Datec (Fiji) is proud to partner with APMT and ramp up the speed of the progress in digital transformation in Fiji over the last couple of years, keeping up with the swift technological advancements and of course give back to the society which has given us so much.”
He said together with their partners, including the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation, they were committed to building skills, confidence, and futures.
“Because investing in our youth is investing in Fiji.”
APMT chairman Dr Renjith Joseph said Datec (Fiji) was a big success story from Fiji with operations extending to Australia.
He said the ICT service provider would play a critical role in helping their students gain invaluable experience by working in the dynamic Datec environment and become the professionals every company would be keen to work with.
“We are aware that Fiji National Digital Strategy 2025-2030 has set ambitious targets to take Fiji forward into the digital world, including creation of 40,000 ICT jobs across various sectors,” Dr Joseph said.
“This joint venture couldn’t have happened at a better time,” he said.
According to the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation, the joint venture was “an audacious digital leap forward”.
It stated that this catalytic digital breakthrough marked the jump start of an exciting joint venture of Datec Fiji Pte Limited and APMT with the Foundation, connecting business to grassroots communities, digital prodigies and young people like never before.
“Together, we are empowering the next generation through ICT and digital skills, preparing them for real employment and entrepreneurship in this fast–moving age of AI, automation, digitalisation, and global connectivity,” the Foundation stated on its social media Facebook page.
“This isn’t just training.
“It’s unlocking potential, building confidence, and creating digital leaders who can shape their own futures.
“From Fiji to the wider Pacific, we’re committed to replicating success stories, uplifting communities, and ensuring our youth are not just included, but leading the way.”
Datec (Fiji) and APMT acknowledged its respective teams and supporters that had worked for months to make this joint venture possible and give the Fijian youth the combined advantage of two industry leaders.
