A former police officer accused of stealing money from an elderly man will be challenging her caution interview.
The case of Elizabeth Sautu, 24, was called before Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
It is alleged that in March of 2024, she stole more than $3000 from a 66-year-old man of Sigatoka.
Her lawyer, Joji Cakau, requested an additional seven days to file his voir dire grounds challenging the confessions made during the caution interview.
Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, she was charged with one count of theft.
Ms Sautu is currently on interdiction, having earlier been charged in a separate case of alleged extortion involving a Nasinu businessman. The case is adjourned to January 27.
