A tropical low poses no threat to Fiji.
The system moved into a more favourable wind shear environment yesterday allowing deep convective clouds to develop in multiple quadrants during the day.
Forecasters say conditions remain marginally favourable in the short term, with reduced wind shear expected to persist through Monday and sea surface temperatures around 28 degrees Celsius.
As a result, some further development is possible as the system begins to steer towards the mid-latitudes.
In the longer term, forecast models suggest the low could intensify into a tropical cyclone or remain as a strong, elongated tropical low by early Tuesday near New Caledonia.
It is then expected to move towards Norfolk Island by late Tuesday.
