THE Model Towns Charitable Trust has reached a significant milestone in its Stage K4 development, with general manager Paul Forrest hailing the construction team’s outstanding achievement in housing delivery.

Development of the K4 stage, which commenced on May 9, 2022, is now nearing completion.

The project involves the construction of 98 houses, with the vast majority already finished.

“We have built 94 houses in 811 working days. Thanks to an average of one house every 8.6 days,” Mr Forrest said. “Congratulations to the team for this outstanding achievement.”

While construction has progressed rapidly, the trust is now focused on utility connections and transport accessibility. Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) is currently installing power lines to the K4 sector.

“EFL are currently in stalling power lines to K4 and once installed we are ready to connect. We have completed wiring of nearly all the houses.” Additionally, the trust is advocating for urgent road improvements to support a dedicated bus service.

“We are lobbying for BS Charan Rd from Koroipita to Kings Rd to be upgraded so that a bus company can service the needs of the community. This is urgent as the houses are nearly all occupied.”

Looking ahead, the trust is expanding its focus beyond housing to include essential community services. Plans are underway for a local canteen and a dedicated childcare center.

“This year we are progressing plans to build a Childcare facility so that single parents can get back in the workforce.”

To better serve the diverse needs of the community, Mr Forrest said the trust has introduced varied architectural designs, including specialized care for the elderly.

“We have built two houses to cater for our aging residents. These are dormitory style accommodation housing three patients and a caregiver. We are trialing this to see if there is a potential for more of this type of
accommodation.”

In addition to these specialised units, the trust offers three standard residential designs namely standard units, large units and duplexes consisting of two single units.

“We have done this to cater for different needs of families.”
