SEVENS coach Mike Friday has applauded the local teams that participated in the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, which ended yesterday.

Friday, who coached his eponymous team sponsored by McDonald’s, credited their prowess as an indication of how Fiji had strength and depth, seen in the grand final fixture of Yaro Chiefs and Ravuka Sharks.

“The local teams are phenomenal, the final’s got be two local teams who fully deserve to be in the final,” Friday pointed out.

“And it just shows the strength and depth, the quality of player and resource. Fiji has the richest resource in the world because of the amount of quality and talented players that they have.”

Part of his remarks highlighted the hospitality shown by local communities which Friday had the opportunity to visit.

“The highlight for me, I think the rugby has been great but I think visiting the community, villages on Monday was enriching and was a life memory that I’ll take forever.”

Yesterday, the team lost 14-12 to the Ravuka Sharks in the cup semi-final and Friday also shared his sentiments on that.

“I thought we performed really well in the conditions, we controlled the ball in the first half, we created and scored some good tries and then unfortunately, a bit of ill-discipline, with the yellow card for throwing the ball away and the tackle after the ball,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile his side boasted the likes of American player Perry Baker, Irish player Jordan Conroy and former Fiji 7s player and Olympic gold medalist Semi Kunatani.
