Consultant sought to strengthen sexual health and HIV response in Fiji

The World Health Organization has opened an international consultancy position for a Sexual Health Advisor, HIV has been advertised to support Fiji’s efforts to strengthen sexual health as a core component of the national health system.

The 11-month, full-time consultancy is being offered under a contractual arrangement with World Population Fund Fiji and will be based in Suva.

Applications opened on January 13 and will close on January 20, 2026, with the assignment scheduled to run from February 1 to December 31, 2026.

According to the vacancy notice, the consultant will support the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, through its Sexual Health and HIV Unit, working closely with the National HIV Outbreak and Cluster Response Taskforce.

The role aims to strengthen sexual health as a distinct pillar of health and human rights in Fiji, aligned with global standards set by the World Health Organization.

Key responsibilities include developing a nationally endorsed sexual health strategy, conducting a comprehensive situation and gap analysis, and producing a costed implementation plan that integrates HIV, sexually transmitted infections, gender-based violence, mental health and counselling services into a unified, person-centred framework.

A major focus of the consultancy is capacity building, with the advisor expected to mentor and “twin” with Fiji’s national Sexual Health Officer to strengthen long-term leadership, policy development and service delivery.

Additional deliverables include clinical guidelines, training curricula, workforce development, and community engagement strategies aimed at reducing stigma and improving access to services.
