FREE entry was the catalyst for residents of Sigatoka and the Coral Coast to come out in great numbers to Lawaqa Park for the start of the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s yesterday.

The main grandstand began filling up with spectators prior to the start of the men’s competition and a constant stream of cheering squads and supporters soon filled up the park as matches unfolded in the main ground and ground number two.

Weather conditions varied throughout the day; shifting from fine weather and then overcast conditions with a light drizzle of rain.

Tournament officials, volunteers, ball boys and girls were out in full force on the first day as matches began on time and the day’s schedule moved at a consistent pace according to fixed times noted in the competition’s official draws.

Media organisations were also out to document stories of teams, players and other aspects of the tournament that have been a unique component of it since it first began in November 2010.

The competition continues today, kicking off at 8.30am and is expected to finish by 7pm.
