Bail was granted to 49-year-old Niraj Surend Prasad, who faces one count of theft involving the ATM card of 86-year-old Malakai Kauwale on January 5 in Suva.

The matter was called before Magistrate Charles Ratakele. Police Prosecutor Inspector Reddy said police had no objection to bail, but requested the accused reside with his father while the case remains before the court.

Magistrate Ratakele granted bail with a total bond of $900. Under the terms, Mr Prasad entered a personal bond of $500, while his two sureties – his father and uncle – provided bonds of $200 each.

The court ordered the accused to comply with all bail conditions.

Magistrate Ratakele adjourned the matter to March 10 for plea.
