THE McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji Sevens tournament will be the final opportunity for players in the Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s extended squad to compete for a place in the final squad for the HSBC Singapore Sevens leg, according to head coach Osea Kolinisau.

A young Fiji Babas side will be fielded today at the prestigious tournament, providing the youngsters with a chance to compete against top-tier overseas opponents.

“We’ve selected a young team for the competition because I want to assess the youngsters,” he said.

“It’s especially important to give them the chance to gain series-level experience. We have the USA here, the British Army, overseas teams, New Zealand, and Australia, so it’s a great opportunity for the young players to get a taste of what the series is like.”

The newcomers and younger players in the team have been training hard, impressing head coach Kolinisau with their commitment and potential.

“The youngsters in the side have been training exceptionally well.

“They have been putting their hands up, pushing the senior players, and giving them a good run for their money. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they can do at the Coral Coast. They know that if they play to their full potential, they could become a surprise package for Singapore.”

The Fiji Babas are in pool A alongside Seattle Barbarians of the United States, Nationwide Sydney Nadi of Australia, and Police Blues.
