A seven-member Fijian youth delegation departed for India to participate in the Republic Day Camp 2026, highlighting the growing people-to-people ties between Fiji and India.

The delegation was farewelled on Tuesday by the Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Shri Suneet Mehta and Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru, who both described the Youth Exchange Program as a key platform for youth development and bilateral cooperation.

Mr Mehta said the program allowed young Fijians to engage directly with India’s political institutions, cultural heritage, and national leadership.

“This program is very significant for us as it not only brings young people from Fiji, one of India’s important partners, but also enables them to visit India and interact with policymakers and high-level dignitaries,” Mr Mehta said.

He said the delegates would attend the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and take part in meetings with senior officials, including engagements at the highest levels of government.

The program also included visits to national landmarks such as the National War Memorial, National Museum, Prime Minister’s Museum, Red Fort, Qutub Minar and Dilli Haat, as well as Agra’s Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Mr Mehta said the initiative reflected the importance India placed on its relationship with Fiji.

“This exchange offers participants an opportunity to experience India’s diversity and its rapid development firsthand.”

Mr Saukuru thanked the Government of India for continuing the exchange and said Fiji valued the exposure provided to young people.

“This program creates opportunities for our youth to learn, grow and return home better equipped to contribute to their communities,” Mr Saukuru said.

He said the delegates were expected to return with skills and insights that would benefit youth groups, families, and communities across Fiji.
