Fiji has been ranked 54th globally in the latest Henley Passport Index 2026, reflecting a modest improvement in the country’s international travel mobility compared to recent years.
The ranking places Fiji up one position from 55th in 2025, continuing a gradual recovery after the country recorded its lowest ranking of 65th in 2021, during the height of global travel restrictions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Henley Passport Index, regarded as the world’s leading authority on passport strength, ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access visa-free or with visa-on-arrival.
The index is compiled using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations worldwide.
It is updated monthly and widely used by governments, businesses, and global citizens as a benchmark for mobility.
Historical data shows Fiji’s passport ranking has fluctuated over the past two decades.
Fiji ranked 51st in 2006, climbed steadily to 49th between 2008 and 2009, before slipping to 57th in 2010 and 2011. The ranking peaked again at 51st in 2013, but declined to 62nd in 2015. Since then,
Fiji has seen year-to-year variations, ranking 59th in 2019, 57th in 2020, and 62nd in 2023, before improving to 59th in 2024 and 54th in 2026.
The 2026 ranking suggests Fiji’s passport strength is stabilising, supported by the gradual reopening of borders, renewed diplomatic engagement, and improvements in global travel access for Fijian citizens.
Globally, the Henley Passport Index highlights widening mobility gaps between countries, with top-ranked passports offering visa-free access to more than 190 destinations, while lower-ranked passports face significantly more restrictions.
