THE National Cricket Women’s League at Albert Park in Suva was a success over the weekend, with the last round of pool games providing exciting matchups.
The game between Black Ducks and Ono-I-Lau Sixers was particularly intense as it would determine the winner of Pool 2.
Ono-I-Lau Sixers batted first, scoring 114 runs with 3 wickets falling.
In the second innings, Black Ducks scored 106 runs with 2 wickets down, resulting in a close 8-run victory for Ono-I-Lau.
Captain Ilisapeci Waqavakatoga led the way for the Sixers with 39 runs, while Sulia Vuni shined for Black Ducks with an unbeaten 52 runs.
Cricket Fiji CEO Sitiveni Rokoro revealed the upcoming semi-finals matchups, with Nausori Majidez facing Black Ducks and Ono-I-Lau Sixers taking on Veiyasana Stars.
“The competition promises to be fierce, with players vying for spots in the U19 women’s team for the World Cup qualifier in April,” said Rokoro.
“The 5th/6th place play-off will feature Sarafui Sinas against newcomers Qoma Queens, a team with promising young talent from Lawaki District School.
“Fans and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer for their teams, as their presence is crucial in inspiring and strengthening the growth of women’s cricket in the community.”
The finals and semi-finals are expected to be thrilling contests, with senior national team players also participating and leading by example on the field.
The semi-finals and finals will be held on Saturday at Albert Park in Suva.
