Preparations for Fiji’s 2027 Census of Population and Housing took a key step forward today with the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) convening its first Census Committee Meeting of 2026 at the FBoS Headquarters.
The meeting was chaired by Census Director Apisalome Tamani and brought together senior staff members to review progress made to date, align strategic priorities and strengthen coordination for the upcoming national census.
Discussions focused on assessing current readiness, identifying key milestones and ensuring that planning remains on track ahead of the 2027 exercise.
The committee also examined ways to enhance coordination across departments to support smooth implementation in the coming months.
FBoS said the meeting underscored the importance of early and structured planning in delivering a successful census, which plays a critical role in national development and policy formulation.
Further meetings and technical engagements are expected as preparations intensify toward Census 2027.
The Census is held every ten years.
