Police warn public after man swept away in flooded Bua river

Police have confirmed that a man was swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross a swollen river near Cogea Village in Bua yesterday afternoon.

The incident involved a 65-year-old man who was trying to cross the river when he was caught by fast-flowing water.

Search efforts were immediately initiated but have so far returned negative results.

Police said access to Cogea Village remains severely restricted, with flooded roads and crossings preventing officers from reaching the area to assist directly with search operations.

Police have issued strong warnings to the public, stressing that safety advisories must be taken seriously, especially during the current period of heavy rainfall and flooding.
