The Dominion Brothers Rugby Club will be fielding two teams at the upcoming Coral Coast Sevens Tournament in Sigatoka, which begins this Thursday.

Their U20 team will compete for the youth title, while the senior men’s team will vie for the prestigious I-Wau trophy.

Both squads are well acquainted with the tournament.

The U20 team were the 2024 youth champions and finalists last year, while the men’s team reached the cup quarter-finals in 2025.

Team manager Manasa Moto says this success has inspired many current players to view rugby as a viable career option.

The tournament’s generous prize money has also served as a strong motivation for the players.

“One challenge we face is that most of these players are school dropouts and unemployed youths, many of whom have worked hard with the belief that sevens rugby offers a great opportunity to earn money and build a sustainable career to support their families,” he explained.

Moto added that the team has been preparing for the tournament since qualifying last year, and the players understand what it takes to win in Sigatoka.

“The level of competition at Coral Coast is on par with overseas sevens tournaments. All participating teams have prepared thoroughly, especially the major sides coming from around the world,” he said.

“But our boys have also prepared well and are ready for the challenge.”

The club boasts a proud history of producing quality rugby talent for the national teams, including the likes of Juita Wainiqolo, Sireli Maqala, Filipo Bukayaro, Joji Nasova, and many more.

With the talent and confidence displayed by both teams, Moto believes the 2026 Coral Coast Sevens tournament could see the emergence of more national stars.
