FOLLOWING Jerry Tuwai’s decision to step back from playing duties and formal ambassadorial engagements due to a personal loss, 21-year-old Samisoni Sadole has been called into the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s squad for the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament.
Sadole, an emerging talent in Fijian rugby sevens, primarily plays as a rover for the local Devo Babas team.
His inclusion presents a fresh opportunity for the team during the tournament, as he replaces the experienced Tuwai.
A product of the Ba Kaji Rugby development programme, Sadole has made a notable impact in various local rugby sevens competitions, including the Fiji Bitter Wairiki Sevens and the Nawaka 7s.
He has also featured for key teams such as Devo Babas, JB Sorokoba, and Ba Rugby Union representative squads.
His experience extends to the fifteen-a-side format as well, having been listed as a reserve for the Ba under-20 team in the Skipper Cup competition.
Tournament organisers expressed their full support for Jerry Tuwai’s decision to prioritise his wellbeing during this difficult time.
“Jerry is not just an ambassador to this tournament, he is family,” they said, urging respect for his privacy and extending their deepest condolences.
Jerry also conveyed his gratitude for the support and sent his best wishes to all involved, stating that he is cheering on the teams in spirit.
Samisoni Sadole’s call-up represents an important milestone in his rugby career as he embraces the challenge of representing the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s team at this prestigious event.
