Fiji Airways has announced new safety measures for the carriage and use of portable power banks, effective 19 January 2026, across all Fiji Airways and Fiji Link flights.
Under the updated policy, the use of portable power banks onboard will no longer be permitted, and power banks will be strictly prohibited in checked luggage.
Passengers must carry power banks in their cabin baggage only and store them in the seat pocket, rather than in overhead compartments.
Fiji Airways said the move is part of its continued focus on passenger safety.
“Safety remains our top priority, and these updated measures reflect our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation operations,” the airline said in a statement.
The airline confirmed the decision follows a detailed review of operational protocols relating to portable electronic accessories, in line with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations.
“By restricting the use of portable power banks onboard, we are proactively managing potential risks and aligning our operations with global best practices in aviation safety,” Fiji Airways said.
Passengers are encouraged to check the Fiji Airways website for a full list of restricted items.
“Information about these changes will be communicated to customers prior to travel, at check-in, and within airport terminals from 19 January 2026,” the airline added.
Fiji Airways said the update forms part of its broader safety and operational framework.
“These measures reinforce our reputation as a world-class carrier and our commitment to the wellbeing of all guests and crew onboard.”
