Fresh off a commanding victory at the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s on Saturday, Police Blue wasted no time in shifting their focus towards the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s this week.
The win in Labasa serves as a vital proof of concept for a squad currently navigating a transitional phase.
Coach Apenisa Nasilasila highlighted that the weekend’s success was the result of a disciplined, localised preparation strategy.
“Our process was to simply get this one right before we regroup,” Nasilasila said.
“We have been based in Sigatoka for the past two weeks and we thank our leadership group and families for the support.”
The current roster reflects a deliberate ‘rebuild’.
“The plan is to retain the core of the group as we rebuild again.
“The Fiji Police 7s team is rebuilding again and hopefully come next week we’ll get to see what some of our young guys will have to offer in the Coral Coast.”
Winning in Labasa provided more than just silverware; it provided the psychological edge needed for the grueling competition expected at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park.
“Going into next week (this week), this is a big boost for us and hopefully we get the job done next week.”
With the momentum of a tournament win behind them and the advantage of having already been based in Sigatoka for the last fortnight, Police Blue is positioning itself as a strong contender for the Coral Coast 7s title.
Police Blue has won the most titles at the Coral Coast 7s with wins in 2014 and 2016.
They went on to defend the title for three consecutive years in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
They earned their ticket to the Coral Coast 7s at the 2025 Super Sevens Series which was held last month at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka..
Police has been drawn in Pool A with Fiji Babas, Nationwide Sydney Nadi 7s and Seattle Barbarians.
The tournament starts on Thursday with the finals set for Saturday. The captain’s photoshoot is scheduled for Wednesday.
