Shoppers in Suva were seen spreading out their back-to-school shopping earlier this year, easing the familiar last-minute rush that crowded stores in previous years.

Post Fiji Suva shop team leader Shayal Chand said the change was noticeable at the shop with steady customer flow a week ahead of the usual peak period.

Ms Chand said compared to last year, when foot traffic surged only days before schools reopened, parents this year had started buying uniforms, stationery and other essentials well in advance.

“We could clearly see the difference in foot traffic compared to last year,” Ms Chand said.

“Parents are coming in earlier and taking their time to shop, instead of waiting until the last minute.”

She said strong stock availability had also helped ease pressure on both customers and staff.

“We have a huge range of stock this year and everything has been going well so far.”

“Because parents are shopping earlier, shelves are being restocked smoothly, and customers are finding what they need.”

Ms Chand said many parents were preparing ahead of the expected government assistance, rather than waiting for it to be released.

“Compared to last year, people are already buying even before the assistance comes in. That has made a big difference during this period.”

Ms Chand said the early shopping trend had created a calmer environment in-store, benefiting both shoppers and staff.

“So far, everything is all set and running smoothly,” she said.
