India’s Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Bambhaniya, has highlighted strengthened cooperation between India and Fiji following high-level discussions in New Delhi with Fiji’s agricultural leadership.

In a statement, Bambhaniya said she was “delighted to interact” with Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Tomasi Tunabuna, and Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh, as both sides explored ways to deepen collaboration in agriculture and food security.

“Discussions focused on the modernisation of sugar mills, capacity building, agricultural development, modern storage facilities and strengthening food security,” Bambhaniya said.

“These engagements further reinforce the strong cultural and economic ties between our two nations.”

She said the talks reflected a shared commitment to supporting sustainable agricultural growth and improving resilience in food systems, particularly in the sugar sector, which remains vital to both economies.

As part of the visit, Bambhaniya also joined Minister Singh at Indusfood 2026, a major international food and beverage exhibition and Asia’s premier trade platform. She said the exhibition provided valuable opportunities for engagement between governments, businesses and investors.

“Indusfood serves as an important international platform for business engagement, policy dialogue and the building of long-term partnerships in food and agriculture,” she said.

India and Fiji share longstanding historical, cultural and people-to-people links, with both governments reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture, trade and sustainable development.
