GIVING space to teachers to teach in creative ways was a key ingredient to Nadarivatu High School’s 100 per cent pass rate in the 2024 Year 12 Certificate Exams.

School assistant principal Maloni Takosewa said this formed the foundation for last year’s external exams.

“As administrators we give chances to our staff to come up with their own creative ideas that they believe would bring about change,” he said.

“For example, they believe that our internal examination timetable ought to change and it is supposed to be more aligned to what the student is comfortable with and we welcomed that.

“Another example was allowing the students to use technology as a learning tool during class and if they wanted to step outside and study or do their research they were allowed to.

“This was all part of our efforts to ensure the student was grasping the curriculum through tools and teaching formats that was simple and more aligned with the student’s way of learning things quicker.”

Mr Takosewa also acknowledged the contribution of school principal Apisalome Vunisa, the teachers, parents and community support throughout the year.

“Under the leadership our principal, the hard work of our teachers and the support from parents, guardians and our neighbouring villagers we were able to create an environment that encouraged our students to do their best.

“We held morning, midday and afternoon prayer sessions that gave space for our students to clear out anything that could be holding them back from their education.

“This has been all community effort and we are truly grateful for this achievement.”

The school was praised by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro alongside Levuka Public Schoo, Rabi High School, Valebasoga Secondary School and Duavata Secondary School for achieving a 100 per cent pass rate.

Mr Radrodro said a total of 12,020 students sat for FY12CE in 2025 and the ministry recorded a 74 pass rate this year compared with 2024 when 12,868 students sat for FY12CE and recorded a pass rate of 76 per cent.
