Minister for Transport Filipe Tuisawau has cautioned Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) management against making public statements about its ongoing court case, saying the matter is now before the courts and could be prejudiced by commentary.
In a response posted online, the Minister said the company appeared “not aware of basic law,” noting that GSL had already taken the issue to court for judicial review.
He said the case was now sub judice, and warned that subjective public comments or running commentary could amount to contempt of court.
“Engaging in infantile subjective posts will not solve or progress anything,” Tuisawau said.
“This post by you is not completely true, so refrain from spreading untruths and rumours. Please desist and await the court and judicial outcome, as is resolved in any civilised and law-abiding nation.”
“People are fed up with derelict vessels — get rid of them now and leave the other matter to the court,” he said, adding that no further comment would be made while legal proceedings continue.
The dispute remains before the courts, and the ministry has indicated it will await the outcome of the judicial process.
