The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) is urging businesses across the country to actively participate in upcoming public consultations on the proposed increase in electricity tariffs and to submit written feedback to regulators.

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) will hold consultations from 6–15 January 2026 in all divisions.

FCEF Chief Executive Officer, Edward Bernard, said many businesses had already raised concerns about the scale of the proposed tariff adjustments.

“We have received many concerns from businesses on the impact of this substantial increase. FCEF will continue to push for a reduced increase rate,” he said.

“The suspension of implementation is a welcomed update and we acknowledge FCCC for this. It is now important for businesses to have their views heard via attendance at the public consultations and written submissions.”

Bernard warned that the commercial increase could significantly affect operating environments.

“The 34.7% average increase for commercial users will further elevate the costs of doing business in Fiji, with likely consequences for business expansion, investment decisions, and overall competitiveness,” he said.

He noted that the impact would cut across sectors, firm sizes, ownership types and regions — potentially affecting national economic targets such as boosting MSME contribution to 22% and lifting investment to 20% of GDP by 2030.

FCEF is preparing a consolidated submission and plans to seek a dedicated meeting with FCCC to present the private sector’s position.
