Authorities are urging members of the public to stay away from the Walu Bay area as emergency teams work to contain a leak from an oil tank.

The National Fire Authority is currently at the scene, while police have cordoned off entry points to Walu Bay from both the Suva and Lami sides to ensure public safety and allow crews to operate without disruption.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe has called on members of the public to cooperate with officers and follow directions issued at the scene.

Officials say further updates will be provided once the area is declared safe and the situation is brought under control.
