VILLAGERS of Komo Island welcomed the new year with a community outing at the Murimuri picnic spot in the Lau Group.
The day was spent in traditional activities, with men fishing for the communal meal and preparing kokoda, as well as cooking fish over an open fire.
Women were busy making brooms from coconut leaves, while children enjoyed swimming at the nearby beach under the watchful eyes of their parents.
The gathering was an opportunity for families to celebrate the new year together while strengthening community ties.
