Hundreds gathered in Suva yesterday to farewell permanent secretary for Health and Medical Services Dr Jemesa Tudravu, a man widely regarded as the steady hand behind Fiji’s public health system.
The funeral service was held at the Centenary Methodist Church, where family members, senior government officials, medical professionals and members of the public filled the pews to pay tribute to his life of service.
Dr Tudravu, who died late last month, was remembered as a quiet achiever who dedicated more than three decades to improving healthcare delivery across the country, from major hospitals to remote communities.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries, former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama, former president Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and members of the diplomatic corp were among those who attended, in acknowledgement of his leadership during some of the most challenging periods faced by the health sector.
Colleagues described him as principled, deeply committed and guided by faith, values that shaped his approach to public service.
Dr Tudravu was laid to rest at the Lovonilase cemetery, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, humility and unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of others.
