DECISIONS made towards the increase of electricity tariff was not taken lightly, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
He added that Government understood concerns that followed the announcement of this increase.
“Let me assure you these decisions were not taken lightly,” he said. “They are necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability, reliability, and expansion of our national power supply.”
This, he said included investment in renewable energy and rural electrification.
Mr Rabuka had also said Government could not interfere because FCCC was an independent statutory body.
