DEFENDING champions of the Tui Suva Volleyball Tournament, Toba Volley Club, featured seven teams in this year’s competition: four men’s teams, two girls’ teams, and one sub-junior team.

Club representative Joseph Zinck highlighted the club’s proud history in the 30-year-old tournament, particularly for himself, as he was one of the pioneer members who approached the Suvavou community to initiate the annual event.

Since the tournament’s inception, Suvavou has become a household name in local volleyball.

Their Redline Volleyball team is ranked among the premier teams in the Suva Volleyball Association, with many players advancing to become national representatives.

Following their first game yesterday, Zinck expressed confidence that their main team is on track to defend their title.

“Judging by the first game we played, we might have a slim chance of reaching the final,” he said.

With the growth of the sport and the dominance of their volleyball teams at both district and national levels, Zinck revealed that discussions are underway for another tournament.

“We have a project in place to hold quarterly meets every year, allowing us to select talented young boys and girls from all parts of the village to represent Suvavou in the Suva competitions.”
