LOSEVATI Vuca learned she had given birth to a new year baby hours after enduring painful contractions at the Aspen Medical- managed Lautoka Hospital maternity unit where she was admitted.
Ms Vuca, who welcomed her newborn daughter Ataliah Meredaini at 1.47am, said when she realised she had given birth after midnight, she was over the moon.
“I did not pay attention to the time because of how much pain I was in,” she said.
“And then when I finally gave birth and they told me the time, I realised she was born on January 1.
“I could not believe that we were the first delivery on January 1.
“I am really happy that she’s finally here.”
Hailing from Vunikodi Village in Udu Point, Vanua Levu, the first-time mother said her daughter was named after her maternal grandmother.
“My grandmother passed away in 2017 and when I fell pregnant, I promised if my child is a girl I will name her after my grandmother.
“Because she was the one who raised me.”
