Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has urged Fijians to start the new year united, focused and determined to build a stable and prosperous Fiji, saying the country’s greatest strength has always been its people.

“As we welcome the New Year, I extend my warmest greetings to all Fijians at home and abroad,” Mr Seruiratu said in his New Year’s message.

“The turning of the year invites reflection on where we have come from and more importantly, a renewed commitment to where we are going as a nation.”

He said resilience, compassion and the ability to work together had defined Fiji through challenging times.

“Fiji’s greatest strength has always been its people, their resilience, compassion and capability of achieving great things when we stand together.”

Looking ahead, Mr Seruiratu said the year ahead demands unity despite differences in background or opinion.

“The year ahead calls upon us to unite and work hand in hand for a stable, peaceful and prosperous Fiji.

“While we may come from different backgrounds and hold differing views, we share far more in common than what divides us.”

He said shared values must guide the country forward.

“Our shared values of respect, hard work, faith, family and love for our country must guide us forward. When we choose cooperation over conflict and unity over division, we unlock our full national potential.”

Mr Seruiratu reaffirmed his role as Leader of the Opposition, pledging to continue holding the Government to account.

“As Leader of the Opposition, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment in the new year to fight for the rights, interests, and wellbeing of all Fijians, without fear or favour.

“I will continue to be a strong and principled voice in Parliament, ensuring that the Government is held fully accountable for its actions, decisions and use of public resources.”

“May this new year bring renewed hope, stronger unity, and shared progress for our beloved nation.
