The first phase of the investigation into the verification of Viber messages involving police officers has been completed, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP/C) Mesake Waqa.
ACP Waqa said this initial phase focused on the digital analysis.
“The first phase involved detailed examination of the devices using internationally recognised mobile forensic tools, supported by our foreign law enforcement partners,” ACP Waqa said.
The investigation is now moving into its second phase, which will include enquiries with financial institutions and service providers.
ACP Waqa addressed recent delays in obtaining statements from an overseas witness, clarifying that they were due to jurisdictional compliance requirements.
A Fijian police officer is expected to travel to Australia in the first week of January 2026 to obtain the statement.
He confirmed that continuous liaison is ongoing between the Fiji Police Force and the Australian Federal Police regarding the matter.
“This is a multifaceted investigation involving various local and international agencies,” ACP Waqa said.
The Assistant Commissioner reaffirmed Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu’s commitment to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation.
“The only way forward is to establish the truth to the allegations made,” ACP Waqa added.
