The mother of a 13-year-old girl who urgently requires amniotic membrane grafting in both eyes in India, received a $5000 contribution from a financial service provider in Suva yesterday.
Kontiki Finance Limited human resources manager Leeanne Dalton said the company reached out to the family of Giya Geetanjali Prasad after reading her story in The Fiji Times last Saturday.
“We came across the news article that was published in The Fiji Times and we thought this is something small we could contribute towards her (Giya)treatment in India,” Ms Dalton said.
“This support is part of our corporate responsibility where we assist wherever we can.
“We wish Giya well and a speedy full recovery, that’s all we are looking for.”
Giya’s mother, Evlin Ashika Devi, thanked Kontiki Finance and everyone who had helped the family during their time of need.
“Thank you so much Kontiki Finance for assisting us for our daughter’s treatment in India,” Ms Devi said.
“I am very happy that they have assisted us with $5000.”
She said preparations were now underway for Giya’s flight to India.
“We are now preparing for Giya’s travel as she will be flying on January 25.
“We are getting her things ready — all her reports, clothes and necessary items which she will require over there.
“At this point in time, I would like to thank everyone who helped us in raising the funds for my daughter’s treatment.”
