An active trough of low pressure is moving toward Fiji from the west and is expected to affect the country from Tuesday through the weekend, bringing widespread cloud, rain and thunderstorms.
According to the latest forecast, periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms are likely over the interior and northern parts of Viti Levu — including Naitasiri, Ra, Nausori, Tailevu, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka — as well as across Vanua Levu, Taveuni, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
Elsewhere, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms.
Authorities warn that localised heavy downpours may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, avoid flooded roads, and stay updated with weather advisories. Communities living near rivers and drainage systems are also encouraged to remain vigilant and prepare for potential rising waters.
Members of the public are advised to secure loose items, review emergency plans, and monitor official alerts as the system continues to develop over the coming days.
