The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has confirmed it is investigating an incident that occurred earlier this week on board the Interlink passenger vessel, MV Ohana, while it was berthed at the Suva wharf.

In a statement, MSAF extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died as a result of the incident.

The authority said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding what happened, in line with its regulatory responsibilities.

“As investigations are ongoing, MSAF is unable to provide further comment at this stage. Updates will be provided to the public once the investigation has been concluded and findings are available,” the statement read.

MSAF reiterated its commitment to ensuring maritime safety and compliance across Fiji’s transport sector and said the outcome of the investigation will guide any further actions.
