Three people lost their lives yesterday in three separate road accidents, prompting renewed safety warnings from police.

In the first incident, a 65-year-old woman of Korociriciri Road, Nausori, was struck by a vehicle while sitting roadside waiting for a bus early yesterday morning. She was rushed to the Nausori Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver is now in police custody.

In another accident along the Queens Road at the Yarawa stretch near the slope towards Talanua, Serua, a man died at the scene after the vehicle he was driving went off the road. Police say the victim is believed to have been intoxicated at the time.

The third fatality involved a 34-year-old man who succumbed to injuries from an accident that occurred on Boxing Day along Waicoka Road, Nausori. The vehicle he was travelling in failed to negotiate a bend and landed in a mud pool. The driver fled the scene. The victim was initially treated at the Nausori Health Centre and later transferred to CWM Hospital, where he passed away last night.

Police investigations into all three incidents are continuing, and authorities are again urging motorists to drive responsibly and adhere to road safety rules.
