The Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Esrom Immanuel, has directed the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) to prepare and submit a detailed report on the electricity tariff review by Monday, 29 December.

FCCC briefed the Minister that, alongside Electricity Fiji Limited’s (EFL) application, several other service providers have also requested tariff reviews.

However, Immanuel said the EFL proposal requires additional scrutiny, and he has instructed FCCC to undertake further stakeholder consultations and public awareness before any final determination is made.

The Minister said tariff decisions must carefully balance regulatory independence with transparency and consumer realities.

He highlighted three key principles that must guide the process — the role of the regulator, discipline and transparency within the regulatory framework, and the lived experiences of consumers.

“All three matter equally in ensuring fair, transparent, and inclusive outcomes for the people of Fiji,” Hon. Immanuel said.
