A Christmas Day road trip from Nadi to Nayavu turned into a life-changing moment for Lavenia and her family when she unexpectedly went into labour while travelling.
According to a post from the Archdiocese of Suva, the family was making the holiday journey when Lavenia began experiencing strong contractions.
As fate would have it, they were passing Ra Maternity Hospital at the very moment it became clear the baby would not wait.
The hospital’s medical team acted immediately, admitting her and assisting with the delivery.
Lavenia safely welcomed a baby boy — the first baby born at Ra Maternity Hospital on Christmas Day this year. Both mother and newborn were reported to be in excellent health.
“The baby was delivered safely and both mother and newborn are in excellent health,” the Archdiocese noted, praising the dedication of staff.
After remaining under observation, Lavenia and her son were discharged on Boxing Day and have since returned to Nadi.
