THIS festive season is just another occasion for Kanchan Kaur to celebrate the gift of life.
With 92 years tucked under her belt, Ms Kaur shares a lesson shaped by years of good health centred around healthy eating habits.
At last week’s Senior Citizens Day celebrations, she reflected on a lifetime guided by moderation and consistency, particularly with her diet.
While many credit long life to genetics or luck, she believes her eating habits have played a major role in helping her reach her advanced age in good health.
The daughter of the late Baki Singh, Ms Kaur grew up in a household where hard work and independence were valued.
Her father was the owner of a timber mill in Sawani, and she said those early years taught her discipline which she carried throughout her life.
Cared for by her son and daughter-in-law Angela Sharma, who insist she rest and avoid housework, Ms Kaur prefers to remain active.
She still washes her own clothes and manages her daily routines.
Ms Kaur said staying active, combined with mindful eating, has kept her both physically strong and mentally alert.
She encourages young people to take better care of their bodies, saying habits formed early in life can determine one’s health in later years.
Her message serves as a reminder that living long does not always require complex solutions.
As she approaches her 93rd birthday in March next year, Ms Kaur stands as an example that simple living, a balanced diet and self-discipline can support a long and fulfilling life.
