THE Fiji Council of Churches in collaboration with the India High Commission hosted an Ecumenical Christmas Carol event at the Suva Civic Centre on Monday night.

Various denominations came together to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The theme of this year’s event was, “The light shining in the Darkness”.

Reverend Dr Anil Reuben from the Methodist Church of Fiji, Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Peter Loy Chong, both shared messages focused on making “Christmas belong back to Christ” because it seems to “belongs to the businesses” right now.

Members of the Fiji Council of Churches and Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta were present at the event.

Aside from the singing of carols, children took part in the Nativity play, the oldest Christmas time traditions which involve the reenactment of the sacred events leading to the birth of Jesus Christ.
