Fiji Airways faces fuel constraints for Vava’u, Tonga services

Listen to this article:

Fiji Airways has issued a travel alert for passengers travelling on the Nadi–Vava’u (VAV) route, advising that checked baggage may be subject to delays.

In a statement, the airline said the disruption is due to the limited availability of fuel from Tonga Airports Limited (TAL), the sole fuel supplier at Vava’u.

As a result, aircraft operating the route are required, until further notice, to uplift additional fuel in Nadi to cover the return sector.

This operational requirement may limit the aircraft’s payload capacity, meaning some ticketed and standby baggage may not travel on the same flight as passengers.

Fiji Airways said any bags not accepted for carriage will be delayed and transported on the next available service with sufficient payload capacity.

The airline stressed that the measures are necessary to ensure all flights operate strictly within mandatory aircraft weight and balance limits, prioritising safety at all times.

Passengers travelling on the route are advised to allow extra time for the delivery of checked baggage and to pack essential items in their carry-on luggage where possible.
