Two former Presidents, former PM amongst those at State House reception

President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, hosted a reception at State House last evening in honour of the returning soldiers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) 1st Battalion, who served under the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

The deployment forms part of Fiji’s longstanding contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations, underscoring the country’s enduring commitment to global peace, stability and international cooperation.

Fiji’s peacekeepers are widely recognised for their professionalism, discipline and resilience, with the RFMF maintaining a proud history of service in demanding missions around the world.

On behalf of the Government and the people of Fiji, President Lalabalavu acknowledged the soldiers for their dedication, commitment and sacrifices during their tour of duty in Iraq.

The reception was also notable for the presence of two former Heads of State — Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau — alongside the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.

Also in attendance were former Prime Minister and former RFMF Commander Voreqe Bainimarama, Members of Cabinet, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, civil society leaders and senior members of the RFMF leadership.
