AFTER spending 16 months away from home, Sergeant Peni Rokosuli could not wait to hold his family again, knowing that living away from home is never easy.

Yesterday, the 31 year-old reunited with his wife Asena Rokosuli and daughter, Sosefina Rokosuli, at the home welcoming parade at Albert Park after serving under the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Sgt Rokosuli said that he was deployed in August 2024, serving a total of one year four months.

“We were deployed to Babylon in August, last year, so I have been away for approximately one year and four months,” Sgt Rokosuli said.

He added serving in a foreign country was not easy, but a challenging one, trying to adapt the climate in the Middle East, the food and a change of scenery.

“Our duty was not easy, rather it was a challenging one, especially to be in a foreign country, adapting to the weather, and food, and the daily objectives that needed to be met.”

Sgt Rokosuli reiterated that he is glad to be back home after one year and four months and thanked the never-ending prayers for the troops deployed around the Middle East serving under the United Nations.

“I am glad and happy to be back home and to be reunited with my wife and daughter,

“I would like to thank the never-ending prayers from Fiji towards the troops around the Middle East,

“I know I owe my wife a long over-due date night,” Sgt Rokosuli jokingly said.
