Fun and competition made up the Prasad’s Timber Supplies-sponsored Mixed Trips Bowling Competition at the Suva Bowling Club on Saturday.
It was the bowling club’s last tournament of the year, a light-hearted conclusion to a year of competitions for the club and its bowlers.
Vice-president of the bowling club, Ramesh Chand, said the event was open to all business houses and bowlers to take part in.
A total of 36 bowlers, divided into 12 teams with three players each, took to the lawn to launch their best shots across it.
Notable players competing in the event included seasoned women’s bowler Litia Tikoisuva.
Chand said the event was more of a social gathering with all national events concluded for the year and highlighted the interest shown in the event.
“Most of the people playing are from business houses and regular bowers, they understand the bowls and the competition is tough,” he said.
“And when there’s prize money and competition, it’s good for bowls.”
He also commended the interest shown in the event by younger bowlers.
The weather proved to be a deterrent to competition having an early start yesterday, with games finally underway shortly after midday when it cleared up.
He also thanked sponsors Prasad’s Timber Supplies Limited for lending a supportive hand to the event.
“They’ve been with us for the past five, six years, sponsoring the last tournament.
“Prasad’s Timber (Supplies Limited) has been a good supporter and sponsor of bowls in Fiji and I think they’ve done quite a bit for the Suva Bowling Club and we acknowledge their support and their contribution to the development of bowls in Fiji.”
Meanwhile, Chand added this year was a great year for the bowling club and looked forward to what lay in store for next year.
