A secret ballot for possible strike action is underway today at Nanuku Resort Fiji as union members vote on whether to escalate a long-running dispute with management over wages and working conditions.
The Fiji Tourism Workers Union (FTWU) said it has been in discussions with the management of Nanuku Resort Fiji for the past two years in an effort to secure improved employment conditions for its members.
“The Union has been talking with the management of Nanuku Resort Fiji for the last two years to improve wages and working conditions,” said union consultant, Salesh Naidu.
According to the union, management has not agreed to key demands raised during negotiations.
These include a formal log of claims covering terms and conditions of employment, a 10 percent wage increase for all union members, assurances of no reduction in working hours, and protections against suspension without pay or warning letters for minor workplace issues.
“After two years, management has not agreed to the Union’s requests on these issues.”
As a result of the deadlock, the union has moved to seek a mandate from its members through a secret ballot to determine whether strike action should proceed.
The secret ballot is being conducted today, 22 December 2025, from 6:00am at the workplace at Nanuku Resort Fiji.
