Queensland’s tourism sector is set for a significant lift following Fiji Airways’ announcement of new direct flights between the Gold Coast and Nadi.

Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the government was proud to support the new route through Destination 2045’s Connecting Queensland Fund.

“We promised more strategic flights connecting Queensland to the world, and we are delivering,” Minister Powell said.

The new service, due to commence on Thursday, 11 June 2026, will provide a direct air link between Fiji and the Gold Coast, strengthening ties between the two destinations and opening new opportunities for international visitors.

Queensland Airports Limited Chief Executive Officer Amelia Evans welcomed the announcement, saying Gold Coast Airport was thrilled to see the new route launched.

“We know that Australians love holidaying in the beautiful islands of Fiji, and this new route will make their next getaway even easier,” Evans said.

She added that the service would also benefit Fijian travellers.

“We’re also really looking forward to welcoming more Fijians to visit friends and family in Australia, and what better way than to fly direct to the Gold Coast,” she said.

Evans said the airport’s ease of access would enhance the visitor experience.

“Compared to capital city airports, Gold Coast Airport offers an easier and smoother arrivals experience — from the moment you land, your holiday begins.”

The Fiji–Gold Coast route is also expected to open new travel pathways through the United States and Canada via Nadi, bringing tens of thousands of additional travellers into Queensland.

It is estimated the service will deliver a $51 million boost to the state economy, supporting local cafes, hotels and tourism operators.
