JOSESE Murimurivalu the breakout athlete from the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics competition this year, is set to debut in his first overseas tournament as he prepares for an upcoming championship in Australia.
“Josese, at the moment, he’s getting ready to go over for a championship in Australia,” former Pacific Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro revelaed last week.
“He’s working alongside Royals coach Antonio Raboiliku. I work very closely with coach Waliki as well, so I trust his programmes a lot.”
The Australian Championship will be a tough a competition for the young athlete but Tabakaucoro believes this exposure will bring out the best in his development.
“For the championships in Australia, I think it’ll be a bit more tough. There’ll be boys that will be a bit quicker than him, so it’s great competition for him,” he said.
“You need to compete with the best and the ones that are right up there with you if you want to get faster.”
Confirmed to join Queen Victoria Schools (QVS) next year, Murimurivalu’s move has generated significant interest, with many schools hoping to secure his talents.
Tabakaucoro will be closely involved in Murimurivalu’s training upon his return, ensuring the athlete continues to develop within the QVS setup.
“He’s definitely moving in the right direction. I’m working alongside his coach as well before he transitions over to the QVS athletics team next year,” said Tabakaucoro.
The collaboration between coaches and athletes across clubs and schools is proving to be a strong foundation for nurturing talent.
“Some of his athletes are also working with me, so we just basically get each other’s athletes ready and just give them a great platform to start off their season,” Tabakaucoro added.
Murimurivalu’s journey to Australia and subsequent involvement with QVS promises an exciting chapter for both the athlete and the school’s athletics programme.
