THE management of the newly-completed $2million bus terminal at Nabouwalu in Bua has been handed over to the Savusavu Town Council.
Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa says the move is deliberate, placing responsibility for the facility with people who understood the community’s needs.
“Local infrastructure should be cared for by local people. They know what commuters, operators and businesses need daily,” he said.
The terminal features covered waiting areas, offices and a police post.
Opening the new terminal yesterday, Mr Nalumisa said the development addressed long-standing concerns of travellers.
“Travellers no longer have to stand in the heat or rain.
“Families have a safe and clean place to rest, and our elders can wait in comfort and with dignity.”
The facility also houses five kiosks, three food outlets, one handicraft stall and a hair salon.
He said these are all operated by local-based businesses.
“These kiosks open doors for local businesses. They create opportunities for families here in Bua.”
Mr Nalumisa said the terminal is intended to support Nabouwalu’s growth as a service centre for the province.
“This terminal is more than a building, it is the start of a town centre that can bring jobs, attract investment and support the growth of Bua.”
